Dear Michael Keleher,
Season’s Greetings to you and Peggy. I am sure that you are gearing up for a big Christmas celebration with the family. Have a lovely Christmas.
Michael, I have been working on the Mae Keleher project lately and I was wondering if I might ask your help. I have been browsing ROMA online ( Rocky Mountain Online Archive) to learn more about the Keleher collection that is housed there at the Southwest Center for Research. I had wanted to get down and look through some of those folders in November, but time got away from me. Next time, I guess. The online digital photographs are truly amazing and a wonderful thing for all of us to be able to look at with a click of our mouse. The whole thing is remarkable and very well organized.
The papers in the folders however can only be seen in person. So of course, I did not see them yet, so I have a few questions.
1. I noticed that when I accessed the Keleher Family Papers, there are a number of boxes and folders. ( In fact, Michael Kelly, head of that department told me on Thursday that there are way too many boxes of family papers , photographs, etc. ( about 25 boxes too many) and he wants very much to return them to the family, but you are not in favor of it.
Despite all of the material, I was puzzled by an obvious missing person in the summary. I see that William has one folder of papers, Thomas and John share a folder of papers, and you have four folders of papers. At the bottom it lists a summary of who is included in the various folders especially in Boxes 17 and 18. I do not even see your sister Mary Ann listed there at all- not in the individual folders or in the summary at the bottom of the page. The summary at the bottom of the page does tell us that papers about David Keleher, Margaret, Eugenia etc. are present but no mention of Mary Ann Keleher. I know that Mother was 10 years old when William was born, so she lived in the house with all of you for 10 years. She must be in some photographs and papers, yet there is no mention of her whatsoever. I am very puzzled by this. Are they there somewhere and I am missing them? Could you explain it to me?
2. Of course we have asked before about the lack of Mae Keleher photos and papers , but I figured that you probably do not have any of Grandpa’s photos and letters from those years (1917-1923). This begs the question of what in the world happened to them all?? I know there were some- Grandpa being such a man of words and diaries etc. Do you know anything about this or have any ideas for us?
3. When you do move those 25 boxes to someone’s house, if there is any thing about Mary Ann or Mae, could we have it? We have never really seen any photos of Mother as a little girl-10-teen years with her parents and siblings. Are there any at all?
4. What sorts of papers do you have in your four boxes? We Rogers kids could be gathering some few things to at least get Mother on the page as being a child of WA, if we knew what kinds of things you all have in your folders. I am sure that there are some letters around to Grandpa when she was at Saint Mary’s College etc. I know he would not throw those away. Any ideas here? We are trying to put a little history together for our family too
Thanks for any help you can give us, and for answering my few questions. If William or John or Thomas have any ideas, about this, I would love to hear them also.
Love, Susan

Dear Siblings,
I thought that I would let you know how to access the WA Keleher collection at UNM in case you want to look at it. I have written Michael Keleher about it and I sent you a copy too. Here is what you do.
1.Google UNM Library
2.Click on Center for Southwest Research
3.Click on Online Archive of New Mexico ( which is also know now as Rocky Mountain Online Archive)
4. Do a Search for Keleher ( not WA Keleher)
5. You can browse around there for a bit, but especially click on the first entry- Keleher Family Papers. You will see what I was talking about to Michael Keleher there. Mother is not even mentioned AT ALL! This makes me upset. Even in the summary at the bottom of the page- no mention. Unless maybe I overlooked it. You guys look and see too.
Now- If you want to look at the photos in the Digital Collections do this:
Go to Center for Southwest Research.
Click on Digital Research
Do a Search for Keleher
You will see 400 amazing historical photos. There are no family photos here.
Ann- didn’t you and Jim volunteer to go down and look over those extra 25 boxes of stuff? What happened?
Anyway- I think that we should all work together on this and get some stuff together when we can.
Please do not send any nasty emails to the Kelehers-ANYONE. We can get more with honey than vinegar as dear old Dad used to say.
Thanks.
Susan

Timothy Keleher

timothy-keleher-2.jpg

A legendary and beloved figure that sends shivers and casts a long, broad, cold and dark shadow directly down the middle of the Six Generations in America : Timothy Keleher (left red jacket) was a highly respected Las Vegas Mob Lawyer and protégé of William Keleher (seated lower right). Timothy grew up on the mean streets of Chicago, told the truth and stood his ground. He is quoted as saying that “Las Vegas is no place for a man with a weak heart.” Timothy was buried with two cigarettes wrapped in a 100 dollar bill tucked into his vest pocket because it was understood that where Timmy was going he would have a wee wait and then he might have to bribe someone.
He remains “juiced in” to this day.
